Jesus formed the Church as an extension and continuation of the work that he initiated during his earthly ministry. As partners in that work we must look to his example to determine what we ought to be doing. Jesus saw himself as a servant to his disciples and the bringer of a great hope. The Kingdom of God is at hand he declared. As part of that message Jesus fed the hungry, healed the sick, and opened access to God for all people.

That is the aim of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and is found in the mission statement, "bringing Jesus to people and people to Jesus throughout Baltimore and beyond." Emmanuel seeks to accomplish this through partnerships with area homeless shelters, emergency services, schools, and churches. We have a food pantry on the premises but the greatest help we can provide is a partnership with the person who is in need. We do not see outreach as a hand-out for the needy but an opportunity to build relationships with hurting people just as Jesus offered us a relationship and hope in our most desperate time of need.
